The date display is located in a somewhat unusual position to the right below the logo. This makes room for the large up-down display on the right at the three- o'clock position. This is designed as a scale with one hand and five markers. The last two marks are denser and red to indicate when the watch is due to be wound. However, the A. Lange & Söhne Grosse Lange 1 Mondphase has a running time reserve of 72 hours, as proudly announced by an inscription at the bottom left. Below and between the up-down display and the hours and minutes display, there is a separate seconds display.
A watch for werewolves?
The eponymous highlight of the A. Lange & Söhne Great Lange 1 Moon Phase, however, is the moon phase display behind the hour and minute display. Here you can quickly check which phase the moon is in at any time and in any place. Of course, it cannot really be assumed that a serious German watch manufacturer like A. Lange & Söhne believes in werewolves and markets its own watches for them. However, there are many people who actually react sensitively to the phases of the moon and even more who, for example, take care of houseplants and garden plants or even cut their hair according to them. This watch is probably meant for them.
