The watch manufactory A. Lange & Söhne
In a ranking by the magazine "WirtschaftsWoche", the watch manufacturer from Glashütte near Dresden in Saxony took first place among the most important German luxury brands, ahead of the automobile manufacturer Maybach. The company looks back on a history of more than 150 years. It was founded by watchmaker Ferdinand Adolph Lange. The Royal Saxon Ministry of the Interior supported the watchmaker financially in the beginning, but in the end he had to assert himself against the great competition from Switzerland. Ferdinand A. Lange's extraordinary pocket watches were soon in great demand all over the world. Today, the luxury watch company has 500 employees and manufactures its watches in strictly limited numbers only. When the great-grandson, Walter Lange, brought out the first model of the "Lange 1" after reunification, he asked himself, what kind of watch would Ferdinand A. Lange make today? The idea for the characteristic large date is based on the clock from the Dresden Semperoper in 1841, which was invented by Ferdinand A. Lange's mentor.
