The Constellation dates back to 1952 and bears the observatory medallion on the case back — a reminder of the precision records Omega set at the observatories in Geneva and Kew. The distinctive claws on the case edge and the design based on the Manhattan concept of 1982 continue to define the line to this day. The calibre 8800 belongs to the Master Co-Axial generation. It operates with the Co-Axial escapement, which reduces frictional loss compared to the conventional lever escapement. The free-sprung balance wheel carries a silicon hairspring that is insensitive to magnetic fields and temperature fluctuations. As a Master Chronometer, it has been tested by the Swiss metrology institute METAS and is resistant to magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss.
