Knowing what type of watch you are is just the beginning. Why stop at the question, “Which watch suits me?” Skilled jewelers can answer this question during the first meeting with the customer. In this article, we want to go a step further and ask the question: which watch goes with which car? Of course, the suggestions are not to be taken completely seriously, but perhaps one or the other association will still apply.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Porsche 911

A Royal Oak on the wrist indicates a penchant for sporty but robust luxury items. The watch from the house of Audemars Piguet came onto the market in 1972, and from the very beginning, it impressed with its disruptive design: the octagonal bezel and hexagonal screws signal elegant robustness, which quickly made waves among watch aficionados. This impression is complemented by the refined tapestry dial, which contributes a complementary elegance. This watch is absolutely worn as a statement and thus goes very well with its four-wheeled counterpart, the Porsche 911, which went into production back in 1964 and is one of the manufacturer’s most famous models. Eye-catchers, the icons are both.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT Master II and BMW X6

A Rolex is clearly a status symbol for the wrist, there’s no arguing about that. This model offers a combination of reliability and prestige. Here you can tell at first glance that the wearer likes to be the center of attention and places high value on quality. What better vehicle to accompany him than an X6? High performance from a premium manufacturer – a dream.

IWC Portugieser and Mercedes E-Class

This watch is a maritime classic that has the blend of classic elegance and modern appeal written all over it. The IWC Portugieser was launched in the 1930s and has since been extremely popular with watch lovers who enjoy their marine chronometers with an upscale look. This is where an ethic of success meets a demand for exclusivity. Order and balance in the fast-moving postmodern age also radiate from the Mercedes E – or S – class sedan. Rather conservative values such as safety, reliability and consistency suggest a life of order. However, this choice certainly signals that one is also well secured for risks.

Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph 43 and Ford Mustang

Breitling used to be considered one of the favorite watch brands of jumbo pilots. This is primarily due to the sophisticated technology of the chronographs. Indeed, the slide rule bezel of the Navitimer is even capable of calculating essential data such as climb and descent rates, average speed and fuel consumption. Even the traditionalists among Breitling enthusiasts have been delighted by the watch’s masculine appeal since its debut in 1952. As a fitting accompaniment, the Ford Mustang immediately comes to mind – masculinity, freedom, adventure on four wheels.

Cartier Tank and Jaguar F-Type

Cartier wearers are clearly gentlemen who have a knack for modern elegance and cultural extravagance. This is also embodied by the panther – the emblem of Cartier – as hardly any other. These watches are perfect for individualists who want to get away from the mainstream. This feline predator could well be joined by a second; after all, the Jaguar F-Type is a racy sports car that combines individual extravagance with unparalleled design expertise.

Nomos Glashütte Tangente Neomatik and Mini Cooper

There is an unofficial understanding among watch dealers that Nomos lovers are usually designers or architects. Watches from this manufacture are functional chronographs with very fine workmanship and interesting contemporary design highlights. Connoisseurs also appreciate the historical connection to the Deutscher Werkbund, which shaped principles such as justice of form, material and work. Nomos automatic calibers are also appreciated by fine minds such as professors, lawyers or doctors. As a tasteful accompaniment, we could well imagine an eye-catcher like the Mini Cooper, which stands for Scandinavian movement quality.

Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional CO-Axial Master Chronometer and BMW 320i

This watch is probably best known for having been to the moon. As the name suggests, the Speedmaster Moonwatch was part of the Apollo 11 program at the time, making it the first watch on the moon. Unlike a Rolex, however, the wearer doesn’t want to impress at first glance, but rather enjoys his insider knowledge. Just as he knows that he has a reliable companion in the BMW 320i, which can elegantly master highs and lows.

Patek Philippe Grandes Complications and Maserati Quattroporte

Friends of this brand attach great importance to seriousness, which can sometimes be sporty. Thierry Stern, the head of Patek Philippe, is known to approve the purchase of special pieces only in person. The Patek Philippe Grandes Complications is one of them. Seriousness is ensured either by a company car such as the Mercedes S-Class or – somewhat sportier – a Maserati. The traditional brand combines elegance, comfort and speed. In keeping with the spirit of Patek Philippe.

A.Lange & Söhne and Mercedes 300SL Gullwing Coupé

This prestigious watch from the traditional manufactory in Glashütte is, unsurprisingly, very popular among classic car fans. If truth be told, however, it doesn’t go well with a classic car because both have a long history behind them. Also, the designs of Lange & Söhne watches just look good next to such a steering wheel. On nice days, for example, you can take the Mercedes for a drive along with the watch and know that you’re elegantly keeping a long-standing heritage with you.

Tudor Black Bay Chronograph and Alfa Romeo Giulia

With the Tudor, you get the quality consciousness of the Rolex sister brand, but for a price that is comparatively affordable. With this watch, rather the upper middle class treats itself to a piece of luxury, which does not miss its effect even through the aristocratic name. Here you get reliable top quality, which nevertheless testifies to individual taste. The Alfa Romeo Giulia – an Italian sedan with a passionate heart – offers a sporty, sleek design to match.

Sinn special watches and Audi A4

True to the spirit of their inventor, the pilot Helmut Sinn, these watches are virtually unbeatable when it comes to expertise in special and mission watches. Nowadays, these watches are even part of polar expeditions. Here it makes sense to choose a car that radiates absolute reliability. According to ADAC breakdown statistics, Audi’s mid-size sedan certainly meets this requirement.

TAG Heuer and Audi TT

At least since the debut of the Heuer Carrera, the watch brand has been inextricably linked with racing. So it’s no surprise that the friends of these watches are also devoted to motorsports. Great design and sports car feeling for a reasonable budget are also available in parallel with the Audi TT. Have a good trip!

During my school days I worked in the warehouse of an auction house and that was when I first came into contact with exclusive, mechanical watches. The fascination was born from that moment and has not let go of me to this day. So it was clear to me very early on that I wanted to learn more about the history and price development of watches - and of course I wanted to own an automatic watch at some point. (My absolute dream, unfortunately far away, was a Rolex GMT Master with the blue and red Pepsi bezel). During my studies, I took my first steps in trading used watches via various online marketplaces and was then able to afford a used Breitling Colt.
