Once again the Wiesn season is just around the corner. From 22 September to 07 October the 185th Oktoberfest takes place, still one of the events of the year. This special folk festival is visited by millions of fans every year – here it means seeing and being seen. Stars and normalos from all over the world are guests in Munich every year. For this occasion, the traditional costume look should of course be perfect so as not to sink into the masses and leave a good impression. The right accessories must not be missing for this. At best, they should make a good impression for a glittering appearance. But which watches go well with Dirndl and Lederhosen and are trendy this year? The following is a brief guide to a perfect Oktoberfest style for 2018.

Dress code: These watches are suitable for wee hours

This year, the Wiesn will once again be looking at the wrist. Wristwatches complete every traditional outfit and give it the finishing touch. At the traditional folk festival, natural materials will also remain in vogue this year: sturdy leather straps, often in darker shades to match the leather trousers, are the order of the day. High-quality leather is not only a real eye-catcher, it can also endure a lot, which is a definite advantage during a cheerful wrangling on extensive festive evenings. Moreover, leather always radiates an extra portion of masculinity – especially in roughened appearance a fashion statement and perfect for a cool, casual traditional costume outfit. Some of our favourites are for example the Carrera Automatik Chronograph Calibre Heuer 02 and the Monaco from TAG Heuer. These precious jewellery pieces are available in versions with a brown camel leather bracelet or matt brown calf leather. The Rolex Cellini Dual Time in Everose Gold with leather strap is also one of our favourites, because the watch is an incomparable mixture of tradition and innovation – just like the modern Oktoberfest.

For those who attach great importance to extravagance, the Tribute to Pallweber Edition “150 Years” by IWC Schaffhausen with a jump digit module and rotating discs on the dial may be the ideal Wiesnbegleiter. This special piece of jewellery with a black alligator leather strap pays homage to the historic Pallweber watches and captivates with its clean, at the same time antique and modern design, which certainly attracts attention.

In addition, watch models in classic silver are still in demand. They add a certain something to the perfect traditional look, match every style and radiate class without being too thick. The Tudor Heritage Back Bay Bronze with its bronze case and leather strap and brown dial, for example, is a stylish addition to the leather trousers.

Men who fall back on a simple white traditional shirt can also be more courageous and show some colour in their timepieces. With the piercing blue dial “Z-Blue”, combined with green sapphire crystal and orange accents on the Rolex Milgauss, you have a real eye-catcher in the luxury class. So you can be sure of envious looks!

Steel housings with matching straps are not only a good optical complement to the traditional costume, but also suitable for everyday use: They can be cleaned quickly and easily with a little water if a mishap should happen with beer, roast or similar. For all those who find the typical steel models too clumsy, here’s a little insider tip: the Breitling Transocean Chronograph with its delicate steel bracelet in Mercury silver looks extra elegant and stylish. Women should definitely take a closer look at Tudor‘s new “Clair de Rose” line. The line is a tribute to classic feminine elegance and fits every woman. Thanks to the three different case sizes and the numerous models with or without decorative stones, as well as with leather or steel band, there is something for every taste (and every dirndl!).

Another luxurious companion (and our most noble favourite for ladies) is the Rolex Pearlmaster 34 in white gold with diamonds and a mother-of-pearl dial – so the graceful lady is guaranteed a shiny Wiesn appearance.

The Wiesn clock of the last year

A very special watch appeared in 2017 – we remember: Hublot launched a special flyback chronograph in the Oktoberfest look. It is always important for the Nyon-based manufactory to be where the customer is – so it decided to present the new watch in Bavarian design directly on the Wiesn. For the perfect Bavarian watch, the traditional Swiss company entered into a cooperation with the Bavarian leather clothing company Meindl Fashion, which designed the two interchangeable bracelets of the Big Bang Unico Bavaria.

Both are made of hand tanned deerskin and embroidered in finest handicraft. The first variation is a classic ribbon in the colour “Altsalzburg”, a combination of brown and yellow, and comes with cuffs, deer head and oak leaf motif. In keeping with the colour scheme of the strap, the 45 millimetre watch comes with a brushed bronze case, a novelty from Hublots. With this presentation, the model also unites this year’s trends – a genuine Bavarian and above all timeless eye-catcher, which every year is the perfect complement to the traditional costume. Since direct skin contact with bronze is not advisable, the caseback was specially made of glass bead-blasted black ceramic and screws made of pink gold were used. Only 100 pieces of the strictly limited Flyback chronograph were produced. It could be bought for 27.900 Euro and is and remains probably the untouchable champion on every Wiesn.

During my school days I worked in the warehouse of an auction house and that was when I first came into contact with exclusive, mechanical watches. The fascination was born from that moment and has not let go of me to this day. So it was clear to me very early on that I wanted to learn more about the history and price development of watches - and of course I wanted to own an automatic watch at some point. (My absolute dream, unfortunately far away, was a Rolex GMT Master with the blue and red Pepsi bezel). During my studies, I took my first steps in trading used watches via various online marketplaces and was then able to afford a used Breitling Colt.
