The heart of watchmaking
The tourbillon is considered one of the most sophisticated complications in mechanical watchmaking. It was designed to improve accuracy by minimizing the effects of gravity on the movement. At Patek Philippe, the tourbillon is more than just technology—it's a symbol of precision, patience, and masterful craftsmanship.
Each tourbillon watch from the Geneva-based manufacturer is produced in limited numbers and meets the highest standards in terms of technology, craftsmanship, and design. It is aimed at watch enthusiasts who not only seek something special, but also understand it.
Models & technical masterpieces at a glance
Patek Philippe offers several tourbillon models within the Grand Complications line. Particularly popular is the Ref. 5303R, an exceptional model with a skeletonized dial and a visible tourbillon at 6 o'clock.
Also iconic: the Ref. 5316P, which combines a perpetual calendar, minute repeater, and a concealed tourbillon. The elaborately engraved 6002R impresses with its enamel dial, moon phase, and minute repeater—each piece is unique in form and design.
The watches are made of platinum or rose/white gold and powered by in-house hand-wound movements—featuring elaborate finishes, Geneva stripes, beveled bridges, and some hand-engraved elements. Diameter: usually between 40 and 44 mm, depending on the model.
What makes a Patek Philippe Tourbillon so special?
Patek Philippe not only masters the technology of the tourbillon – the manufacture interprets it as a complete work of art. Each timepiece is handcrafted, assembled with the utmost precision, and bears the seal of quality for excellent finishing and chronometric performance. The watches are not only extremely rare but also technically perfectly balanced – with calibers that sometimes combine multiple complications, such as minute repeaters, perpetual calendars, or world time functions.
Patek Philippe's tourbillon is often hidden from the dial—a deliberate sign of restraint and for wearers who don't need to display their expertise and sophistication. But even skeletonized versions with an open tourbillon impressively demonstrate the horological expertise that goes into each component.
