The Story of the Rolex GMT-Master Pepsi – A Watch with Aviation DNA

The Rolex GMT-Master was developed for pilots in the 1950s. The American airline Pan Am was looking for a solution to make it easier for its pilots to read multiple time zones – Rolex provided the answer. In 1955, the first GMT-Master was introduced with the iconic red and blue bezel, distinguishing day from night hours. This color scheme, reminiscent of the logo of a famous soft drink brand, quickly earned the watch the nickname "Pepsi."

Over the years, the GMT-Master has continued to evolve. With the introduction of the GMT-Master II, the movement was optimized to display a third time zone. Modern versions such as the Ref. 126710BLRO in stainless steel or the luxurious Ref. 126719BLRO in white gold retain the distinctive look but incorporate state-of-the-art technology and improved materials.

Design & Functions – More than just a beautiful watch

The Rolex GMT-Master "Pepsi" combines striking design with high functionality. The striking Cerachrom ceramic bezel is not only scratch-resistant, but also colorfast and resistant to UV radiation. Thanks to the 24-hour hand and rotating bezel, wearers can read two time zones simultaneously—a feature that makes the watch an ideal choice for frequent travelers.

The 40 mm case, crafted from Oystersteel or 18-carat white gold, ensures robustness and elegance. Inside is the Caliber 3285, a high-precision in-house movement with a 70-hour power reserve and Rolex's patented Chronergy escapement for maximum efficiency.
