Spring is on its way and with the first delicate blossoms bending their heads towards the sun, brand-new innovations and inspirations appear on the watch scene in keeping with the season. What will move the world of watches in spring 2022 and what trends are emerging in terms of technology and design? We at Horando will get to the bottom of this in the following.

Unisex models: Watch trends for him and her

While men’s watches have tended to become smaller and less bulky in recent years, women’s watches no longer have to be filigree. Women’s and men’s designs are thus converging to a certain extent, which means that more and more watch models fall into the “unisex” category.

A wonderful example from our range is the Black Bay Fifty-Eight 925 from the Tudor brand, which cuts a fine figure on any wrist with a plain black leather strap and a reduced diameter of 39 mm. The same goes for the Hydroconquest model from Longines in a modern olive-green design with brightly contrasting numerals and a case made of steel and ceramic. The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Spitfire from IWC, on the other hand, is classically chic. A brown strap made of soft calfskin and a black dial set in an elegant steel case combine to create a thoroughly successful timepiece for him and her.

Another watch model from our selection that can be called a unisex product with a clear conscience is the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time from Patek Philippe. The rose gold case, together with the dark brown dial and the strap made of calfskin in a lively cognac shade, lend this watch a timelessly elegant look that is sure to delight women and men alike.

So unisex is clearly the trend this spring, but at the same time the range of business watches especially for women is also growing. Here, for example, diamonds are combined with cheerful colour elements, marbled components, mother-of-pearl and rose gold, resulting in an unmistakably feminine, expressive look.

Fine-tuning movements: higher power reserve as a watch trend in 2022

Mechanical movements have reached a level of technical sophistication that leaves little room for optimisation in terms of basic functions. However, this does not stop the manufacturers of luxury watches from working diligently on fine-tuning and thus ensuring that their movements are constantly getting a little bit better.

One watch trend of spring 2022 is to be found in mechanical timepieces with a higher power reserve. Whereas in the past the end was usually at around 40 hours, today models with power reserves of over 50 to a whole 70 hours are no longer a rarity. At this point, we would like to talk about the Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope Co Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph luxury watch, which convinces with 60 hours of power reserve in addition to a lot of technology – including tachymeter, pulsometer and date display. This is topped by the Code 11.59 model from Audemars Piguet: the fascinating watch with an alligator leather strap and white gold case even breaks the full 70 hours. In terms of power reserve, the motto for spring 2022 is clearly “more is more”.

Another “construction site” that renowned manufacturers of high-end timepieces are fine-tuning relates to the protection of watches from the influence of magnetic fields. With the aim of making the products more resistant, elements made of anti-magnetic materials, such as silicon, are integrated for this purpose, for example.

Spring 2022 Watch Trends: Sporty Designs and Daring Shapes

Real spring fever is likely to come to many a watch fan when the Breitling Super Chronomat 44 Four-Year Calendar becomes the topic of discussion. With date and month display, rotating bezel, small seconds, luminescent hands and moon phase, this automatic watch has just about everything on board that a true connoisseur could wish for. Thanks to the black, ribbed rubber strap and the steel and rose gold combination of the case, the Breitling Calibre 19 luxury model combines unmistakable high quality with sportiness that is suitable for everyday use and must therefore not be forgotten when it comes to the watch trends of spring 2022.

The Tag Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Calibre 5 Automatic watch, one of our enormously popular models, is also sporty, but with a more extravagant design. Instead of the traditional round shape of the case, this timepiece has clear edges: The forest-green dial is set in a dodecagonal titanium case, so that the men’s watch with a silver titanium bracelet is guaranteed to catch everyone’s eye. So we can say this: If you’re in the mood for something new, daring and yet highly functional, then you’re sure to find what you’re looking for among the watch trends of 2022.

In summary, one could say that the watch trends of spring 2022 are all about diversity. Both watches in classic design and more abstract models for the fashionably daring find their place here and ensure that the watch scene remains miles away from boredom and monotony this year. The multitude of unisex models also contributes to an even greater choice for women and men alike, so that everyone really does have the opportunity to find their personal spring 2022 favourite.

During my school days I worked in the warehouse of an auction house and that was when I first came into contact with exclusive, mechanical watches. The fascination was born from that moment and has not let go of me to this day. So it was clear to me very early on that I wanted to learn more about the history and price development of watches - and of course I wanted to own an automatic watch at some point. (My absolute dream, unfortunately far away, was a Rolex GMT Master with the blue and red Pepsi bezel). During my studies, I took my first steps in trading used watches via various online marketplaces and was then able to afford a used Breitling Colt.
