Which watches will be discontinued or updated in 2023?
At the end of every year, watch lovers naturally wonder which models will make it into the following year and which will be revised or discontinued. Rolex, for example, is at the forefront of the rumor mill. We present our candidates for fundamental changes for next year here. Of course, these are only predictions, but we believe they are very well-founded.
1. Rolex Daytona
We believe that in 2023, not just one Daytona model, but the entire series will be overhauled. This could be due to the 60th anniversary of the iconic chronograph. If Rolex were to choose just one model, the Ref. 116500 would be our tip. The watch with the ceramic bezel has been part of the collection since 2016 and would certainly be a candidate for one of the subtle design revisions that Rolex so values. A slightly larger case could then house, for example, more advanced watch technology, ensuring that fans of the series don't have to miss out on anything. The precedent for this was already set with the overhaul of the Submariner. The Geneva-based brand is always good for surprises. Whether the Daytona series will be updated next year cannot be said with certainty. Nevertheless, we would like to take this opportunity to wish them all the best for their anniversary.
2. Rolex Milgauss
The second entry on our list also belongs to Rolex. We think the Milgauss series will also be getting an update. This is a reasonable assumption, as the Rolex Air King, whose case is very similar to the Milgauss, was already updated this year. It was originally designed as a watch for engineers and scientists, whose chronographs needed to function reliably even in the presence of strong magnetic fields. This special functionality—coupled with the unique Rolex design—is also evident in the current generation of the watch from 2007. Isn't it time for a little overhaul?
3. Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36 Turquoise
The third slot on our list also belongs to a Rolex. It's no coincidence that the popular watch with its signature turquoise blue is one of the most popular models in the series. We can't imagine the earlier models disappearing completely, even though production was discontinued this year. Rolex is still releasing two (slightly smaller) models with turquoise dials, the Ref. 277200 (31 mm) and the Ref. 126000 (36 mm). Given the popularity of these models, we don't think Rolex wants to completely abandon them.
4. Patek Philippe Nautilus
We just had to say goodbye to the Nautilus Ref. 5711, but Patek Philippe surprised its fans with the new Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 5811. The Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph Ref. 5990 also made a comeback in the form of a stainless steel case and a blue sunburst dial. Our tip for the next update in the series : the Patek Philippe Nautilus Moonphase Ref. 5712.
5. Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M 007 Edition
We don't want to leave this watch unmentioned, as it's a special case. The chronograph was originally produced for Daniel Craig's final outing as James Bond. We're still curious to see what the brand has planned next. After all, new Bond, new watch.
