A. Lange & Söhne traces its roots to Ferdinand Adolph Lange, who founded Saxon fine watchmaking in Glashütte in 1845. After the expropriation of 1948, the name disappeared for decades until Lange's great-grandson Walter Lange re-established the brand in 1990. The first new collection followed in 1994, including the Lange 1 with its characteristic outsize date.
Its defining trait is uncompromising craftsmanship. The movements are made of untreated German silver and every balance cock is engraved by hand. Each movement is assembled twice – once for testing and, after final finishing, a second time for good. Alongside the Lange 1, the Saxonia, 1815, Zeitwerk and Datograph shape the collection. This makes A. Lange & Söhne the brand for anyone looking for German watchmaking at the very highest level.
