The 1957 original

The first Speedmaster, reference CK2915, was designed as a chronograph for racing drivers and engineers. Typical features were the broad arrow-shaped hour hand, the tachymeter scale on a metal bezel and the highly legible dial with three subdials. The Speedmaster '57 adopts these features in a modern case without being an exact copy.

Hand-wound calibre 9906

Inside works the Co-Axial calibre 9906 with manual winding and around 60 hours of power reserve. It is certified as a Master Chronometer by the Swiss institute METAS and is therefore resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss. Through the sapphire caseback you can see the movement with its column wheel, and the watch is water-resistant to 50 metres.

Speedmaster '57 or Moonwatch

The Moonwatch Professional has an asymmetrical case with crown guards and a black bezel, whereas the '57 looks calmer and more classic with its straight lines, metal bezel and 40.5 mm. If you are looking for a Speedmaster to wear with a shirt and suit, the '57 is a good choice. Only the Speedmaster 38 is more compact.
