What the Co-Axial escapement brings
The Co-Axial escapement goes back to the English watchmaker George Daniels and has been used in series production by Omega since 1999. It works with less friction than the usual lever escapement. As a result, accuracy remains more stable over the years and service intervals can be longer.
Moonwatch Professional with calibre 3861
Since 2021 the Moonwatch Professional has been powered by the hand-wound calibre 3861 with Co-Axial escapement and around 50 hours of power reserve. It is certified as a Master Chronometer by the Swiss institute METAS and is resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss. The case measures 42 mm, the dial is stepped as on the early models, and depending on the reference the front is protected by Hesalite or sapphire crystal.
Dark Side of the Moon
With the Dark Side of the Moon, Omega launched a Speedmaster with a case of black zirconium oxide ceramic in 2013. It measures 44.25 mm, is more scratch-resistant than steel and considerably lighter. Variants followed such as the Grey Side of the Moon in grey ceramic and the Apollo 8 with a skeletonised hand-wound movement whose surface is reminiscent of the lunar surface.
