Luxury wristwatches for an adequate sense of time

HORANDO is aware that people choose their watches according to various criteria. The platform for high-quality watch purchases on the Internet at reasonable prices wants to offer luxury watch buyers a protected area in which the desire for a wristwatch from the luxury segment can be left and reflected upon. It is obvious that the everyday person actually needs his watch less and less as a functional instrument. Today we can have the time announced to us in many different ways, sometimes we would also like to have it a bit less time consuming. Time is also associated with negative connotations. Time pressure, lack of time, waste of time resonate. Heir counter, who schedules every minute and demands an account of every hour. Today there is much talk about slowing down and mindfulness, we are more concerned with a pleasurable design of the reservoir of life intended for us. Dealing with time sensibly - and savouring every minute - all this can be seen from a glance at the wristwatch. Then it increases the feeling of life enormously, if this view falls on a clock, which is able to measure more in its value and beauty than units of time. The watches from the house of Ulysse Nardin are without a doubt one of them.

Ulysse Nardin luxury watches with vivid storytelling

This certainly has a lot to do with the fact that the Ulysse Nardin brand itself can look back on an eventful history. It is also the saga of a family. The watchmaker Léonard Frédéric Nardin was born in the middle of the revolutionary epoch in 1792. He introduced his son Ulysse to the refinements of watchmaking and sent him to William Dubois, the most famous watchmaker of the time. Ulysse profited a lot and founded his own company in Le Locle in 1846. The location - still the company headquarters - was tactically chosen, as the industrial city had been regarded as the cradle of Swiss watchmaking since the beginning of the 18th century. After Ulysse Nardin's sudden death in 1876, his son Paul-David blutjung succeeded him.

Ulysse Nardin and the conquest of the oceans

From this time on, the company turned to a specialization that was to establish its maximum reputation: ship chronometers. Paul-David had the feeling for an actual gap in the market and the knowledge to fill it excellently. Impeccable precision was vital in the up-and-coming shipping industry. A deviation of one second alone could mean a detour of over 460 metres. And the young owner of Ulysse Nardin met this need so perfectly that the awards were not long in coming. By the turn of the 20th century, 300 specialists were already working on the excellent reputation of the company. The pocket watches from Ulysse Nardin shone with many interesting complications: Wake-up call, calendar, moon phase, perpetual calendar, percussion. A successful model that has proven its worth throughout the company's history. Some of these historic works of art still astonish visitors to the Le Locle Clock Museum today. The excellent deck watches and pocket watches reached Japan, Russia, the USA. Between 1906 and 1942 Ulysse Nardin supplied the US Navy with his sensational and ingenious inventions. The chronometers were so perfect that they were quickly copied and industrially produced by the original American manufacturer Hamilton - fatally without patents - when cooperation with the United Navy Observatory Naval was broken off during the war. Ulysse Nardin entered the watch Olympics with the presentation of a wristwatch with chronograph and automatic winding mechanism for the 1936 Olympic Games. After eventful decades, the duo Rolf W. Schnyder and Dr. Ludwig Oechslin succeeded in the eighties in maneuvering the traditional watch manufactory back into the top field of Swiss producers with pioneering innovations. The watches now embodied a unique symbiosis of functionality, suitability for everyday use and flawless aesthetic refinement. Again it rained international gold medals and 4000 first prizes. In 2014, Ulysse Nardin became part of the French luxury goods group Kering.

Between heaven and earth - high-end luxury watches for individualists

The naval chronometers of the Swiss watchmaker are rarities. Ship captains, deep-sea sailors, naval officers wear these watches, which are based on the essential elements of the old watchmaking art. Especially the limited models Maxi Marine Diver, Blue Sea, Black Sea Chronograph or Acqua Perpetual Limited Edition are firmly anchored in the maritime elite equipment. The San Marco series is also very popular. The cult models Moonstruck, Royal Blue Tourbillon and Carneval de Venice are available in only a few examples. Since the sixties, ladies have also found it difficult to resist the maritime charm of the noble pieces and choose Caprice, Classico Lady, Jade or Dual Time Ladies. An interesting choice of colours between silver and violet and glittering diamonds create a feminine aesthetic, while male wearers tend to warm up for the screwed crowns, water resistance and other down-to-earth details. That Ulysse Nardin also has the ambition to play in the avant-garde could not be overlooked when introducing the Chairman Phone (with integrated mobile phone) and The Freak models, whose production involves silicon and nanotechnologically produced diamonds. For watch lovers with a penchant for astronomy, Ulysse Nardin has the right stars. It was actually overdue for an outstanding watch manufacturer to take on the interrelationship between the celestial bodies, planets and solar systems, the interrelations between sun and moon in relation to time. Ulysse Nardin's trilogy of astronomy consists of the models Astrolabium Galileo Galilei, Planetarium Nikolaus Kopernikus - with the 7 planets of the old world - and the Tellurium Johannes Kepler. The latter in yellow gold case with automatic movement and sapphire crystals. Models like Alexander the Great, Planet Earth, Sonata Silicon and Freak Blue Phantom evoke the brilliant corporate past.
