It seems like a rollercoaster ride if you take a look at the history of Rolex GMT Master II. It was launched in 1955, completely revised in 2005, is has always been flying high and is a must-have above the clouds. The high flyer also reflects the postwar years. The Rolex GMT Master II indicates that travelling by plane has become affordable or normal for (almost) everybody and is no more something luxury. The watch is also an indicator of the changing perception of speed, altitude and amplitude, the increasing interaction between continents and the fact that luxury watches try to meet the changing habits of frequent flyers. Rolex as a watch manufacturer with its new concept has a significant impact on that.
