Rolex Day Date 40

In the world of watches, the Rolex brand stands for unique quality and timeless design, which allows its watches to achieve a high value retention. In 1956, the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date was added to the product range. It was thus the first watch to include the written out day of the week in the dial in addition to the numerical day, setting a new mark in design and modernity. Because of the unique materials, made only in platinum or 18 karat gold, the watch is a statement of success and personality. Nevertheless, different dials and special bezels can give the watch a special design.

The material

The Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40 is made in platinum and gold. Platinum, rare and precious, offers gorgeous physical and chemical values, along with its radiant exterior. Although it is soft and elastic, it hardly corrodes and thus remains permanently radiantly bright. Processing the material is extremely difficult and requires craftsmanship to perfection. The Rolex brand uses only 950 platinum, an alloy containing 950 thousandths of platinum, making it durable and strong. The 18 karat gold is produced in the in-house foundry, achieving the highest quality. Depending on different additives (copper, silver, platinum or palladium), different colors are produced. Finally, the cases are available as yellow, rose or white gold, which must meet all in-house quality standards. All cases have a diameter of 40 mm.

Dial and bezel

To match the different case colors, different dials are also offered. This gives the models a face and a different expression depending on the color/features. The dial is almost exclusively handcrafted in Rolex's own workshop. Concise feature, to guarantee on the one hand a good readability, on the other hand to underline the quality, the indices on the leaf are made of 18 carat gold. This prevents them from tarnishing. In addition to the dial, different bezels are also available. The fluted bezel can create a sporty appearance, whereas the smooth bezel can create a more classically elegant look.

The movement

The heart of the watch is undoubtedly the movement. With its caliber 3255, a movement on the cutting edge of technology and developed in the halls of Rolex, a technical masterpiece was built that sets new standards. Precision, high power reserve, insensitivity to magnetic fields and shock resistance are just a few aspects that have been improved and perfected. Rolex also holds 14 patents that protect the self-winding mechanism.

Special feature

In addition to the precision of +/- 2 seconds per day, a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal or the 100 meter water resistance, the Day-Date is available in several languages. As the first watch with a written out day of the week display, it was quickly offered in a wide variety of languages and today has a multitude of world languages on offer.
