The year 2020 was marked by uncertainty, volatility, and restrictions. But especially in times like these, people like to turn to something that gives them a sense of continuity. A high-quality watch is a companion for decades and for a lifetime. Quality is eternal—and that's why demand for luxury watches remained unbroken in 2020. We'll tell you which models were particularly popular this year.

Rolex remains at the forefront

Rolex 's high-quality luxury watches continued to be a staple in 2020. But other equally high-quality brands are also among this year's favorites. Three manufacturers stand out in particular: Rolex leads the way, closely followed by Breitling and Omega , which are represented with three and two placements, respectively, in the top ten of the most popular watches of 2020.

The ten best watches of 2020

10. Rolex Cosmograph Daytona

First produced in 1963, this model has become a cult object. A "wristwatch with motorsport DNA" – that's the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona . Its name and history are inextricably linked to Daytona Beach in Florida, the cradle of motor racing in the USA. The signature tachymeter bezel is capable of measuring average speeds of up to 400 miles or kilometers per hour. A new technology also enables the chronograph to start and stop with high precision. Tough, reliable, and stylish, the Daytona is a watch for all occasions.

9. Rolex GMT-Master II

The Rolex GMT-Master II is THE watch for globetrotters. The model was designed to display the time in two different time zones simultaneously – thanks to the 24-hour triangle hand and the rotating bezel with 24-hour graduation. Since its initial launch in 1982, the GMT-Master II has delighted watchmakers in a wide variety of color versions, including the blue and red " Pepsi " and the black and blue " Batman ." The discontinuation of production of the black version has made pre-owned models more sought after than ever among enthusiasts.

8. Breitling Navitimer 8 Chronograph

One of the most famous pilot's watches is the Breitling Navitimer , perfectly equipped with a chronograph and signature slide-rule bezel. With a new Breitling CEO in 2018, the Navitimer was also further developed: Inspired by their historical predecessors, the new watches do without a slide-rule bezel—but this hasn't diminished their popularity. The Navitimer 8 Chronograph is our favorite of the line. Equipped with the in-house Breitling B01 caliber and COSC-certified precision, it exudes a vintage touch while boasting the finest modern watchmaking quality.

7. Rolex Oyster Perpetual

It was the original Oyster that established the reputation of the Rolex brand in 1926: the world's first waterproof watch. Almost a century later, the new generation of the Oyster Perpetual continues to delight with its understated elegance combined with technical mastery. Available in yellow, red, or turquoise dials, it demonstrates bold color. The hands and indices are also coated with luminous material for optimal legibility.

6. Breitling Avenger

Extremely robust and shock-resistant, yet safe and reliable: With the Avenger , Breitling has met the needs of the times – a watch fit for 2020. The high-quality automatic calibers are chronometer-certified for their precision. The larger pushers allow the watch to be operated with gloves, making it ideal for use even in the harshest conditions. Particularly popular with collectors: the famous Breitling wing logo, which is now used in this form on only a few watches.

5. Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional

The watch on the moon: The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch was the first and so far last wristwatch to travel on our natural satellite. It's no wonder the 2020 model is still as popular as it was in the 1960s. The Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional offers many advantages not only for astronauts, but for all watch lovers: The black dial features a small seconds subdial, a 30-minute and 12-hour counter, and a central chronograph hand. At the heart of the watch is the legendary Omega Caliber 1861 hand-wound movement, which was worn on the moon.

4. Rolex Submariner

The Rolex Submariner remained in high demand in 2020. The first choice for diving watches, it is also arguably the most well-known, most popular, and most copied watch in the world. Water-resistant to 300 meters, the Oyster bracelet with Glidelock system looks just as good over a diving suit as it does with an office outfit. The luminous hands and indices ensure ideal legibility even in low light, and the power reserve is approximately 70 hours. With this combination of performance and style, the Submariner secures fourth place.

3. Omega Seamaster

A proud third place: With the Omega Seamaster, Omega is competing with Rolex. As a classic from the company, it is once again one of the most popular watch models this year. Suitable for everyday use while simultaneously boasting a professional history as a diver's watch, the Seamaster impresses with its sense of style and watchmaking quality of the finest refinement. James Bond knows this too – in the new 007 film "No Time to Die," he wears an Omega Seamaster on his wrist, which supports him in his military mission.

2. Breitling Colt Automatic

The Breitling Colt Automatic is among the top choices for the first time. We're not surprised why. Its robust steel case reflects its military heritage. Sober and efficient, the watch focuses on reliability and excellent legibility. With a diameter of 41 and 44 mm, the Breitling Colt Automatic secures second place and a place on your wrist.

1. Rolex Datejust

The top spot for the most popular luxury watches of 2020 goes to a Rolex timepiece: the Datejust . Since 1945, this model has captivated with its simple, elegant charm and signature date display. Whether stainless steel, yellow gold, champagne-colored dial, or diamond bezel – the diverse versions of the Rolex Datejust are sure to have the perfect one for every lover. The new 2020 models continue this success story – the Datejust is and remains a classic wristwatch par excellence.
