The birth of a legend

When Audemars Piguet presented the first Royal Oak in 1972, it was far ahead of its time. Designed by Gérald Genta, it combined sportiness with luxury for the first time – in the form of a stainless steel watch with an octagonal bezel, visible screws, and an integrated bracelet. This unprecedented design became the blueprint for an entire generation of modern luxury watches. The name "Jumbo" refers to the original case size of 39 millimeters – a dimension that was large for the time, but is now considered timeless.

The most famous Royal Oak Jumbo models include the reference 15202ST, equipped with the historic caliber 2121, and the current 16202, which has been manufactured with the new caliber 7121 since 2022. Both models incorporate the classic design features of the Royal Oak, but interpret them technically in different ways. They are available in various finishes – including stainless steel, rose gold, yellow gold, or platinum. Dials are also diverse: from classic Royal Oak blue to smoke gray to limited editions with green or rose dials.

With a case thickness of just 8.1 millimeters, the Royal Oak Jumbo is one of the thinnest automatic watches in its class.
