Audemars Piguet Royal Oak: 2026 Prices from the 15550 to the Jumbo

Since 1972, the Royal Oak has been polarising – today mainly because of its price. Hardly any other steel watch trades so far above the amount that Audemars Piguet itself lists. For the classic 15510ST in steel, the premium currently stands at over 80 percent; for the rose gold version, it is only around 30. For six references ranging from the 37mm three-hand model to the "Jumbo" in white gold, we set both figures side by side and explain where the gap comes from.

Boutique or open market: two routes to a Royal Oak
Audemars Piguet's price list sets what a new model costs at the brand's boutiques. For the steel references, this figure remains theoretical for most buyers: the manufacture in Le Brassus produces comparatively small quantities and prefers to allocate the steel Royal Oak to customers who have already bought from the brand before.
On the open market, by contrast, what decides the price is how many unworn examples of a reference are currently available and how many buyers want them right away. For the Royal Oak, this almost always results in a premium – steep for steel, more moderate for gold.
The HORANDO prices in this article apply to new watches, as of October 2026. As list prices, we use the euro price list that has been in effect since January 2026.
Royal Oak Selfwinding 41 mm: the price of the 15510ST

Our Royal Oak 15510ST with a green dial (reference 15510ST.OO.1320ST.09) is priced at 51,900 euros – around 82 percent above list. That is the largest gap in this comparison and shows how strongly demand concentrates on the classic steel version.

The Royal Oak Selfwinding 37 mm, reference 15550ST, is the more compact variant with manufacture calibre 5900 and roughly 60 hours of power reserve. It sits narrower and flatter on the wrist, which makes it the better fit for many. On the price list, it stands at 27,300 euros.

The "Jumbo" Extra-Thin is the direct descendant of the first Royal Oak from 1972: 39 mm in diameter, an extra-thin case, only hour and minute hands. Since 2022 it has carried reference 16202 and manufacture calibre 7121 with roughly 52 hours of power reserve; its predecessor, the 15202, is no longer produced. Why the Royal Oak trades above list price
When Gérald Genta designed the Royal Oak in 1972, it was a provocation: a luxury watch in steel that cost more, at around 3,300 Swiss francs, than many gold watches of its time. Today, that very design – octagonal bezel, integrated bracelet, "Tapisserie" dial – is one of the most recognisable watch designs of all.
Three factors keep the market price above the list: Audemars Piguet deliberately produces few watches, sells almost exclusively through its own boutiques, and allocates the steel models preferentially to existing customers. The more sought-after the model, the larger the premium – which is why the steel Royal Oak trades proportionally much further above list than the gold variants.
Whether this gap will hold in the coming years cannot be said with certainty. In recent years it has already narrowed from its peaks. Anyone buying a Royal Oak should therefore want to wear it first and foremost – not view it as an investment.
Frequently asked questions about the Royal Oak price
What does an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak cost at minimum?
Among men's models with an automatic movement, the Royal Oak Selfwinding in steel starts at 27,300 euros (37 mm) per the price list. On the open market, new steel models currently sit well above that, at HORANDO from 45,490 euros.
Why does a Royal Oak in steel cost more than the price list states?
Audemars Piguet builds fewer steel models than buyers want, and reserves boutique allocation mainly for repeat customers. The premium on the open market is therefore the price of a watch you do not have to wait years to get.
Is the Royal Oak in gold a better buy than in steel?
Measured by the premium over list, yes: for the rose gold Royal Oak, it stands with us at around 30 percent, for steel at up to 82 percent. In absolute terms, however, gold costs considerably more. Weight and look also differ. In the end, it comes down to taste.
What is the difference between the Royal Oak 15510 and the "Jumbo" 16202?
The 15510 has 41 mm, a seconds hand and date display, and the calibre 4302. The "Jumbo" 16202 measures 39 mm, is extra-thin, does without a seconds hand, and uses the calibre 7121. It is closest to the 1972 original and is priced accordingly higher on the price list.
Conclusion
The Royal Oak models in this comparison cost, per the 2026 list, between 27,300 euros for the steel three-hand model in 37 mm and 84,500 euros for the "Jumbo" in white gold. Available at that price, though, the steel models hardly ever are. Anyone wanting a Royal Oak without a wait pays a sizeable premium for steel, a smaller one for gold.
