About TAG Heuer

TAG Heuer traces its roots to Edouard Heuer, who founded his watchmaking workshop in the Swiss Jura in 1860. From the start, the focus was on measuring short intervals of time: in 1887 Heuer patented the oscillating pinion, which is still used in many chronographs today. In 1916 came the Mikrograph, a stopwatch accurate to a hundredth of a second. The brand has carried its current name since 1985, when the TAG group came on board.

Its defining trait is the close link to motorsport. The Carrera was created in 1963 as a chronograph for racing drivers, the Monaco in 1969 as one of the first automatic chronographs and with the first square, water-resistant case. In 1971 Steve McQueen made it famous in the film Le Mans. Aquaracer and Formula 1 add sporty watches for the water and everyday wear. This makes TAG Heuer the brand for anyone who wants to combine sporting spirit and Swiss watchmaking.

TAG Heuer since 1860

Edouard Heuer founded his watchmaking workshop in Saint-Imier in the Swiss Jura in 1860. In 1887 he patented the oscillating pinion, which is still used in many chronographs today. It was followed in 1916 by the Mikrograph, the first stopwatch accurate to a hundredth of a second. In 1985 the Techniques d'Avant Garde group took over the company, and the brand has been called TAG Heuer ever since. Since 1999 it has belonged to the luxury group LVMH.

TAG Heuer Carrera

Jack Heuer, the founder's great-grandson, presented the Carrera in 1963 as a chronograph for racing drivers and named it after the Carrera Panamericana road race in Mexico. Clear dials and a slim case were meant to stay legible even at high speed. Today the line is available as the Carrera Chronograph, for example with the in-house Calibre TH20-00 and domed sapphire crystal in Glassbox style, and as three-hand automatic models for everyday wear.

TAG Heuer Monaco

The Monaco was launched in 1969 as one of the first automatic chronographs, powered by Calibre 11 with the crown on the left. Its square, water-resistant case was a novelty at the time. It became famous through Steve McQueen, who wore it in the 1971 film Le Mans, and the Monaco Steve McQueen recalls this with its blue dial. The Monaco Gulf bears the colours of the racing team of the same name.

TAG Heuer Aquaracer

The Aquaracer is TAG Heuer's diver's watch and has carried its name since 2004, with roots going back to the Heuer diver's watches of the late 1970s. Typical features are the unidirectional rotating bezel, the screw-down crown and water resistance to 300 metres, with a twelve-sided bezel on the Aquaracer Professional 300. It is available with an automatic movement, with a quartz movement, as the Professional 200 and as the Aquaracer Lady with smaller cases.

Formula 1, Autavia and Link

The Formula 1 appeared in 1986 as a colourful, robust sports watch and is still the entry point to the brand, especially popular as a quartz chronograph. The name Autavia combines automobile and aviation; Heuer first used it for a dashboard instrument and from 1962 for a wrist chronograph with rotating bezel. The Link from 1987 is recognisable by its bracelet with S-shaped links, which sits softly on the wrist.

Movements from TAG Heuer

For its three-hand models TAG Heuer relies on proven automatic movements such as the Calibre 5 with date and Calibre 7 with a second time zone. For the chronographs there is the Calibre 16 and the in-house chronograph movement Heuer 02, now called TH20-00. It works with a column wheel and vertical clutch and offers up to 80 hours of power reserve. Many models show the movement through a sapphire caseback.
