Cartier - luxury group with a long history
The French company Cartier belongs to a renowned jewellery and watch company. The foundation stone for the luxury goods group was laid in 1847 after Louis-Francois Cartier took over the jewellery studio in Paris. Cartier grew rapidly, marked by a successful history, and expanded the production of custom-made watches. By changing other corporate structures, a Cartier subsidiary was opened in London in 1904, in addition to the main branch. Jumps to Russia and America followed, so that Cartier also became more and more internationally known.
The origins of the wristwatch
The Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont, who went down in history as the inventor and perfectionist of flying machines, expressed his desire to be able to read time comfortably from his wrist. His friend, Louis Cartier, turned the vision of the wrist watch into reality and invented the mother of all wristwatches. From now on, the time could be read comfortably from the wrist without having to rasp the pocket watch out of one's trouser pocket.
