Tissot PRX

The return of a shape from 1978

The Tissot PRX goes back to a quartz model from 1978 whose flat tonneau case and wide, horizontal bracelet attachment made the watch appear as a single unit. The abbreviation stands for precision and robustness, the X for the Roman numeral ten and therefore for ten bar of pressure resistance. Since the relaunch in 2021 the line has been available in 35, 40 and 42 mm, as a quartz model, as a Powermatic 80 with 80 hours of power reserve, as an automatic chronograph and in special versions in titanium, carbon or Damascus steel.

Case, bracelet and versions

The case is flat and tonneau-shaped, the bracelet runs into it without a visible join and, on the current models, can be changed without tools using a quick-release system. Scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, a glass case back on the mechanical versions and water resistance of 100 metres are standard. Alongside stainless steel, Tissot offers the PRX in PVD-coated versions, in titanium, with a ceramic bezel, with a bezel in 18-carat gold and in special models in carbon and Damascus steel.

Which size suits whom

The 40 mm version is the best-selling variant and sits between a classic and a sports watch. The 35 mm version is not a scaled-down men's watch but a line of its own with adapted proportions, and it is suitable for narrower wrists. The 42 mm version is reserved for the automatic chronographs. All three sizes are available with both quartz and automatic movements.
