The fulfilment of a dream
The Lange 1 watches are the result of a great dream of a courageous man. At the time of the German Wall, the manufactory experienced a setback and went into a forced break for 40 years. However, Ferdinand Adolph Lange, the great-grandson of the founder Walter Lange, never gave up and decided to continue producing the finest wristwatches. After reunification, he finally re-founded the traditional company and had a clear vision: the first Lange watch of the modern age.
Although Lange 1 marks a new beginning, Ferdinand Adolph Lange was keen to preserve the roots of the Manufacture and to equip his timepieces with traditional elements such as three-quarter plates, screwed gold chatons, screw balances and handcrafted finished surfaces. The new Lange wristwatch was intended to continue the outstanding quality of historical pocket watches from A. Lange & Söhne and thus worthily continue the family heritage.
However, Lange 1 watches should not only be a reminder of the performance of previous watchmakers, but also set new standards. For this reason, the company approached the design of the timepiece with innovative ideas - and took a completely new path. Typical of Lange 1 are the decentralized displays on the dial, as they form an isosceles triangle so that none of the displays are hidden by another. This guarantees ideal readability at all times. In addition, the large date consisting of numerals in a golden frame is characteristic of watches in the Lange 1 family. The famous five-minute clock of the Dresden Semperoper served as inspiration for this.
