In April 1861 the Junghans dynasty was founded by Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-law in the Upper Palatinate. Whereby the beginning was rather bumpy. In the former buildings of the oil mill, which the two gave up after moderate success again, the two implemented the first clock manufacture. The beginnings were such that components for large Black Forest clocks such as the wooden case, bronze shields, hands and glass pieces were manufactured for them. So they were what you would call a supplier nowadays. For Erhard Junghans and his partner, this was a time of learning. A time that would be decisive for the later worldwide success of the Junghans brand. It took a good 20 years for Junghans to be present on the market with the production of its own watch brand. This activity began effectively with the creation of the Junghans logo. The 5-pointed star, which was later redesigned to eight points. Inserting the "J" later. This new self-image heralded the actual beginning of the Junghans watch brand.

Junghans, the 1930s

In these years, the family business produced the first self-constructed movements, which found their way to the first German market in wristband format. The first success of the Junghans company came in 1936 with the caliber J80, which was equipped with an indirect center second hand. Shortly thereafter, this caliber underwent the first finest movement design under the designation J80/2, which was decorated with the Geneva stripe. This represents one of the most coveted pieces among collectors. The production of this masterpiece of watchmaking art has been awarded the title "Master" over the years and is still in use today. It thus represents a special seal of quality.

Junghans, the 40s and 50s

These years were marked by the development of the first chronographs. The caliber J88, which was installed in hand-wound chronographs, with 19 jewels, ratchet wheel and stop function, represented the first typical pilot-style watches. The 14-line caliber with the gold-plated movement was chosen by the German Armed Forces as the basic equipment for their pilots because of its precision and robustness. Which can be regarded as the beginning of the worldwide success of the Junghans manufactory. Already in 1951 Junghans was the largest German chronograph manufacturer and the 3rd largest worldwide.

From quartz to radio control

In the 1960s, the movement concentrated on quartz-controlled wristwatches, which powered the J 83 calibre. Much later, Junghans was the manufactory that produced the first radio-controlled table clock in series. The eternal German striving for perfection found its expression with the caliber model RCS 1. This caliber promised a maximum deviation of one second in a million years and was solar-controlled. Aesthetics, design and perfect craftsmanship No other watch manufacturer can claim to be able to achieve such a level of material quality, perfect craftsmanship, simple noble design and aesthetics. This is confirmed not least by the Junghans Master Pilot Chronographs, which saw the light of day in 2019. The Junghans Manufacture is the best proof that (German) quality, perfect craftsmanship and aesthetics can go hand in hand.
