3 facts about Longines
With around 1.5 million watches, the Swiss company ranks among the largest and at the same time most successful watch manufacturers. With an estimated turnover of 1.5 billion francs, Longines is also one of the five highest-grossing watch manufacturers in Switzerland.
Fact 1: Longines watches for the pioneers of aviation
In the 1920s and 1930s the company played a significant role in aviation, as the majority of pilots relied entirely on timepieces from Longines to navigate on their record-breaking flights. The timepieces were much sought after both as wristwatches and as on-board clocks in the cockpit.
Fact 2: The famous clock at the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern
Every German football supporter knows it: the large clock bearing Longines advertising at the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern, which showed Germany's victory over Hungary in the 1954 World Cup final. Despite the demolition of the old stadium, it still stands in the same place at the newly built Stade de Suisse today.
Fact 3: The oldest brand symbol in the world
In 1889 the owner of the Longines brand registered the logo with the winged hourglass as the company's emblem with the Swiss Patent Office. Today it ranks as the oldest registered trademark in the world, and it is still used in its original form. The winged hourglass is intended to symbolise the measurement of time, which passes as if in flight, and the symbol also serves as a certificate of authenticity. Longines watches were already highly prized in those days, and counterfeits were therefore circulated time and again. To guard against such counterfeits, the brand's owner Ernest Francillon had the winged hourglass engraved into his watches.

Longines enthusiasts around the world appreciate above all the excellent value for money. The watches of this world-renowned brand are robust, of high quality and suited to virtually every situation in life. The broad Longines product range comprises both men's and women's watches. All of the wristwatches are characterised by traditional, elegant designs. In total the company has five main collections, with the watch family divided between the Classic, Elegance, Heritage, Spirit and Sport lines.
